ZHOU Xiaochuan, Governor of the People’s Bank of China visits the European Central Bank

ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet received today the Governor of the People’s Bank of China (PBC), Mr ZHOU Xiaochuan, and his delegation. The meeting took place in the context of the ECB-PBC working group that was established following the visit of the euro area authorities to China in November 2007. Discussions covered recent macroeconomic developments in the euro area and China and monetary issues of mutual interest. President Trichet and Governor Zhou also renewed the Memorandum of Understanding between the two central banks, which lays the ground for continued cooperation in the field of central banking through a regular dialogue at technical and policy level and the possibility of staff exchanges.
