Workshop information
Unemployment in the euro area has increased significantly and is particularly high among the younger parts of the workforce. Moreover, the picture for the euro area aggregate hides important cross-country heterogeneity, with unemployment in some countries greatly exceeding the euro area average, while in other countries unemployment has actually fallen. The high level of unemployment is a matter of growing concern and a challenge for policy-makers because of its social and economic costs.
Against this background, the 2013 ESCB Labour Market workshop will focus on ways to tackle high unemployment, as well as evaluating policy measures and reforms already taken in some countries and providing input into the design of appropriate policy measures and reforms going forward.
